It’s not an April Fool’s prank, yet Rhode Island is once again the butt of America’s jokes after another blunder from the Littlest State in the Union. A Boston.com article goes into detail about the controversy surrounding the much maligned “Cooler & Warmer” marketing slogan in addition to the Icelandic views of Rhode Island in the marketing material.
The opening of the article sums it up nicely–
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The state’s top marketing official, who oversaw the disastrous rollout of a tourism campaign that included a video mistakenly featuring a scene from Iceland, resigned on Friday.
Gov. Gina Raimondo said she accepted Betsy Wall’s resignation and added that the state would drop part of a new logo, the tagline “Cooler & Warmer.” The tagline was designed by Milton Glaser, creator of the iconic “I Love NY” logo, but it left many people scratching their heads.
Raimondo, a Democrat, said it was unacceptable how many mistakes were made in the tourism campaign rollout and people need to be held accountable.
For what it’s worth I find it hard to believe that the GOVERNOR of RHODE ISLAND wouldn’t have been heavily involved in the final approval of the RHODE ISLAND marketing campaign to attract tourists and businesses to the state.
They should have gone with my proposed slogan anyway.
